Commitment To Education
It speaks volumes about Morrisville’s commitment to education that since 1838 educational institutions have occupied the present public school location. Scarritt College (1878-1907), started in Neosho as Neosho Male and Female Seminary and later operated as a business school, named for its benefactor, Dr. Nathan Scarritt. Then, in 1908 it merged with the college in Morrisville, moving to what is now our campus and was known as Morrisville-Scarritt College. After a merger with Central College in Fayette (25 miles Northwest of Columbia), it was named Central Methodist College and that institution has operated since 1858 and is now known as Central Methodist University.
